out of all
the people that NEED this treatment...the EU bans it? I'm just aghast.
I remember going to lunch with the band Xymox once, years and years ago in Seattle when I was doing radio and working for Virgin Records. The band is from Holland...and they were the nicest folks and the concert was amazing. But I had a hard time not looking at their teef while we were eating...

what if
it all melts suddenly? The 27.5 inches of snow that fell yesterday? Some lovely flooding, that's for sure. It will be warming up later this week and the results may be messy. Poor Joe had to shovel this morning--was SO much snow! The really cool part was how it drifted and made this wild funny shape around my neighbor's car, as though they were parked next to a wind tunnel.
I wish wish wish wish I had a digital camera, sigh. The boat outside my office window is so beautiful and the bay is caked with little icebergs. Four swans are swimming out beyond the very snowy pier.

there is something
really gratifying about doing silly things. Like making my own wrestler.
By way of ljc.
Off to have a late birthday dinner at Joe's brother's...the menu today is duck. Mmm.

wooohoooo!
we bought a new car! Well, new for us, that is. It's a 2001 Kia Sportage, just like the picture only it's a really beautiful silverish blue. I can't tell you how nice it will be to drive something that I know will be reliable on my long trip each day to and from Salem. I love my other Kia, but it's a 95 and it definitely has some kinks in it. This one is an automatic though and that will take a little to get used to. I like driving with both feet!
I've been bad about responding to emails lately (thinking of Sharyl, my mom, Nicole, Lauren and a few others, sigh). I'm bad, lazy and busy all at the same time but you are not forgotten!!! I haven't even been good about doing my homework, which is really atypical of me. But the good news is that I'm kicking ass at work--just this week, our company has been interviewed by the NY Times, Washington Post, Businessweek, Information week and half a dozen others...I have a new advertisement in the works that will be placed in 3 different magazines, the flash overview is nearly done, my 2.5 employees rock and my boss seems to be pleased.
I haven't been writing much though and I always become conflicted internally when that happens. It's a terrible love/hate relationship that I have.
I picked up The Silmarillion on audio CD though and it's incredible! It's such a heavy book to get through due to all the names (it's like reading the Bible in a way) but hearing it is just pure bliss. 13 CDs in the unabridged version and I have been enthralled. The most incredible part, is the story of Luthien and Beren, which I am convinced is one of the most amazing tales ever told--I wish that someone would make a movie out of this alone!!!

okay all
better. The virus, nasty as it was, has passed. It only took me a week, but I can breathe through the night, can smell and taste food again and am not sneezing like a fiend.
The good news is that Joe and I have made our travel arrangements for getting hitched...we decided to splurge and stay at the Venetian, which is the most luxurious on the Vegas strip. I can't wait! I am going to drag Paulette out to look at dresses at some point, I think, and if I can't find anything better than my black velvet gown, well, I'll just look for a new wrap for it. Yeah yeah, black for a wedding? Well, I did the white thing once, and since it's just going to be me and Joe and we're going to go out to a wonderful dinner afterwards, well, I sort of think that I should be able to wear whatever I want. Perhaps I'll look for a white wrap. ;-) I do think we're going to maybe rent a tux for Joe though...I mean, how often am I ever going to see him looking that spiffy? It should be at the wedding at the very least.
I have my own nation now, actually, and it is a genius way for an author to get people to read his novel, which of course, I might have to do now. I'm a sucker for a kickass marketing scheme.

there are a lot of things
about being sick that I really hate, but mostly, I hate when I can't taste my food. :(
I have sneezed more in one day today than I have ever sneezed in my entire life, I think.

Anthology of Stars
VII. Aurora
Feeling the zinfindel trickle,
past the wandering longview of the eye,
she could feel the initial burst of color.
It left her spinning toward the horizon,
each drop falling in a glittering crescendo
of orangeness, pungent and new.
She was confused by the ensuing cacophony
which felt as disappointing as burnt chocolate
in her mouth, or as distasteful as the wharflike
stench of fish accompanying the cinnamon
boats rocked against the dock by virulent waves.
Yesterday she saw a shooting star and she paused,
savoring the divine glow that blurred and blinked out,
leaving a thousand other stars in the sky, keening
with a rich, wild shimmer, gleaming toward
the earthy footprints she left in her wake.
