little bits of stuff

All sorts of things to chat about...

1. The June Plum Ruby Review is up!

2. If you are ever in the vicinity of North Adams, MA, you need to check out MASS MoCA. We saw many wonderful exhibits, including Matthew Ritchie's Proposition Player.

3. Hiking Bash-Bish Falls is a wonderful thing to do on a sunny Saturday!

4. Through LJC, I found some Ugly Dolls, and lo! At MASS MoCA this weekend, we found the Ugly Icebat! Perfect for our little nephew's 4th bday. ;) I want one too!

Wow, that's so weird. RedPanda and I were there this weekend! We spent a few hours at Mass MoCA on Sunday.

I was going to say that! Damn you, Sean! :) Unfortunately, I left my camera in the car and am still kicking myself. Did you guys cut the tags from your clothes and pin them on the map in the lobby?

We recommend Mt. Greylock as well. :)

How funny! We were there on Saturday. And I guess we missed the map with the tags! We go there probably twice a year so I'll look next time. Joe's parents live in the Berkshires so we visit often. We were going to do Greylock but figured it would be too windy!

I have some kick ass exhibit pictures of MASS MoCA but haven't pulled them off my camera yet. :) A great one of Joe watching the paper fall from the cieling in the Corpus exhibit.

I liked that exhibit, but Sean said it made him "uncomfortable". Later, he admitted it was because it reminded him of Hellraiser.

I enjoyed the paintings pictured in this issue of PRR, Crystal. (Curious, why is the heading "Art/Photography"? Poor photography, the step-child of the visual arts.)

As for funky dolls, www.furilla.com is my favorite.

Once I read more about Corpus, there seemed like (to me, anyway) there were more parallels with Hellraiser. Not that this was the artist's purpose in any way, but I think it speaks to why I was uncomfortably reminded by it.

The creation of the impression of a church or cathedral by using the negative space, the chaos created by the rhythmically released paper (hmm...chaotic rhythm?), the different voices (sometimes in unison, sometimes clashing), and, well, yeah, the black room with the creepy spinning speakers. I think y'all can give me that last one. :)
