it's officially

high summer--the cicadas are out.

I heard the first one this evening when we came home from Margarita's in Waltham (Paulette it was great!). I never heard them till I moved East--and now it's always such a wonderful marker of summer.

And fireflies--of which I have only seen two in my whole life. Sad, huh?

Is Margarita's Tex-Mex? I get a hankering for Tex-Mex every so often and haven't yet found a place that rates with the ones I knew in Austin (though it's a small price to pay for living here instead of there).

I'm not sure I've heard a cicada.

You lived a stones throw from me so I'm SURE you have heard a cicada. We heard them a lot last summer...you hear them more when it's really hot. It's the strange long and loud high pitched sound that you hear in the afternoons and hot evenings.

This link

has some sounds--the closest sounding to the ones around us are the lyric cicada.

Margarita's is actually JUST Mexican, which is what I was so pleased about. It seems like in order to get Mexican in New England it is usually Tex-Mex, so being from the West coast initially I really missed that. I know you're a Texan--I imagine you often get that hankering for BBQ and pulled pork. :)

But we were really pleased with that restaraunt--good food, great margs and nice atmosphere. The wait for the deck along the river was too long but we had a nice spot inside that was great. And they did mess up my order, but the service in fixing it was excellent. The manager came by twice to make sure I was happy and I wasn't even disgruntled in the first place. :)

Oh, my gosh--I had BBQ pulled pork last night! That's hilarious! :)

I need to look into the restaurants in Waltham--heard there are quite a few good ones.

I listened to the cicada and yes, I've heard them. I think we heard them most clearly when we were camping in Gill. As soon as it began to grow dark they started up. You're right, it's a nice sound.
